Whether you are planning your first trip or returning to enjoy its beauty again, here are some of the most remarkable activities to include in your itinerary.
Discover the Enchanting Towns of Valldemossa, Fornalutx, and Deia
One of Mallorca’s hidden gems is its charming mountain towns. Valldemossa, Fornalutx, and Deia are three must-visit locations within the Tramuntana Mountains. These destinations are easily accessible via a day trip or by renting a car. Be sure to bring your camera, as the picturesque stone architecture, tranquil streets, and hilly landscapes provide ample photo opportunities!
Experience the Scenic Train Ride from Palma to Soller
The train journey from Palma to Soller is one of the most delightful excursions you can undertake in Mallorca. Purchase a ticket at the train station or online in advance to enjoy this charming mode of transport to the mountain town of Soller.
The journey lasts approximately one hour, with stops in Bunyola, offering stunning views over Soller, as well as traversing viaducts and passing through 13 tunnels before reaching your destination. Soller is a lovely town where you can easily spend a few hours exploring its narrow streets, sipping fresh orange juice at a local café, or enjoying the atmosphere in the main square before returning to Palma.
Round-trip tickets are priced at 25 Euros.
Tip:
Opt for the earliest train and book in advance, as tickets are limited and may sell out on busy days. On hot days, consider bringing an electric fan for comfort!
Take the Tram from Soller to Port de Soller
A complementary experience to the Palma to Soller train is the Soller to Port de Soller tram. If feasible, take the first train from Palma and catch the last tram back, providing ample time for exploration.
The tram ride is approximately 30 minutes. Once in Port de Soller, you can choose to dine at one of the many waterfront restaurants or relax on the beach. This picturesque area of Mallorca warrants a visit if time allows.
Combined train and tram tickets cost 32 Euros.
Tip:
Bring your swimwear to take a refreshing dip in the sea! If you’re staying in Soller or Port de Soller, the tram can also be accessed independently of the train.
Join a Walking Tour in Palma
A walking tour is an excellent method to familiarize yourself with a new city. If time is limited, this is an efficient way to see the highlights. Even if you have previously visited Palma, a walking tour can reveal previously unseen sights.
Numerous companies offer walking tours, with a popular option being Mallorca Free Tour. Our knowledgeable guide utilized a portable speaker, ensuring that everyone could hear her insightful commentary during a comprehensive two-hour exploration of the cathedral and Palma’s Old Town.
While the tour is free, it is customary to tip the guide at the end. Many participants contributed roughly 10 Euros each, but tipping is based on what you can afford and deem reasonable.
Marvel at Palma Cathedral
No visit to Palma is complete without experiencing Palma Cathedral. This iconic 14th-century structure, known as La Seu, dominates the skyline and is especially striking when approached by sea. As one of Europe’s tallest Gothic constructions, a guided tour provides unique access to the cathedral’s 61 stained glass windows and the magnificent central rose window, best appreciated in the morning light.
Adult ticket prices are 9 Euros, with an optional audio tour available. A guided tour is available for 24 Euros per adult.
Relax at Sa Calobra
The journey to Sa Calobra itself presents a thrilling adventure! However, the beach at Sa Calobra, renowned as one of Mallorca’s most secluded beaches, makes the winding roads worthwhile.
Sa Calobra features two beaches—one situated in front of the restaurants and the other accessible via a narrow path around the cliffs. Follow this path to reach a tunnel that leads to an opening at the end of the Torrent de Pareis. This pebbly beach does not offer facilities, so be sure to bring your own provisions if you plan to enjoy an extended stay.
Enjoy a Day at Calo des Moro
For another exquisite beach experience in Mallorca, consider Calo des Moro. This beach, renowned for its breathtaking views, requires a short 10-minute walk from the car park but promises a visual reward. As you arrive, the stunning azure waters will catch your eye, and exploring further reveals an additional beautiful beach, Cala s’Almunia, equally worthy of your time.
Explore the Drach Caves
The Drach Caves stretch nearly 1200 meters and descend 25 meters underground, making them one of the top attractions in Mallorca. These caves provide a refreshing escape from the heat, with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 21°C. Guided tours lead visitors to Lake Martell, one of the largest underground lakes in the world, concluding with a captivating concert that highlights the extraordinary acoustics of the Drach Caves.
