Explore Point Pleasant: Your Ultimate Guide to a Perfect Day

A day at Point Pleasant Beach
When considering the Jersey Shore, many immediately think of the popular television show, which is a narrow view of this beautiful coastline. While the spotlight often shines on Seaside Heights for its vibrant boardwalk and lively atmosphere, there exist other remarkable locations along the Jersey Shore. Today, let’s explore Point Pleasant, my personal favorite. This area encompasses a variety of stunning beach towns, from Point Pleasant to Atlantic City, Cape May, and Wildwood. In terms of boardwalk experiences, Point Pleasant, also known as Jenkinson’s Boardwalk, stands out for its cleanliness and tranquility. Nestled in Ocean County, NJ, it features a picturesque beach that invites visitors to relax at bayside bars while enjoying live music and dancing couples.

Top 6 Things to Do at Jenkinson’s Boardwalk

Lounge on the Beach

Spending a day on the beach is a quintessential experience. Bring a blanket, a cooler, and enjoy the sun. Note, however, that beach access comes with a fee; day passes are priced at $10 on weekdays and $11 on weekends, with season passes available as well. Alternatively, you can enjoy the views from the boardwalk at no cost.

Engage in Carnival Games

The boardwalk is replete with game booths and arcades, offering a variety of classic carnival games. Visitors can enjoy the thrill of winning stuffed animals, ensuring a delightful addition to their day. The staff are friendly and welcoming, making for a more enjoyable experience compared to other amusement settings.

Participate in Mini Golf

Point Pleasant features enticing mini golf courses. For enthusiasts like me, this is an excellent opportunity to test your skills. With two distinct courses to choose from, including a pirate-themed option, you will find enjoyment in this activity, even if it may not surpass the rooftop mini golf at Seaside Heights.

Explore the Aquarium

This small but impressive aquarium is a delightful surprise for visitors. Featuring a variety of marine life, including local species, tropical fish, and a fan-favorite penguin exhibit, the aquarium offers an affordable experience at $15 for adults and $9 for children.

Savor Fresh Seafood

Point Pleasant is renowned for its culinary offerings, particularly seafood. Here, you can discover fresh oysters and clams on the half shell, along with fan-favorite fried treats. Numerous new restaurants are emerging just off the boardwalk, often featuring connected fish markets, enhancing the dining experience.

Visit the Amusement Park

For those in search of thrill rides, the amusement park is a must-visit. While I tend not to indulge in the rides, they offer ample entertainment for those who enjoy them. Unlimited wristbands are available for $36.95 on weekdays and $39.95 on weekends, providing visitors with access to multiple attractions.

Parking Information

Parking options surrounding the boardwalk are available at approximately $20 per day. However, visitors seeking more economical choices may find free parking a couple of blocks away in the charming town, which boasts delightful coffee shops and restaurants worth exploring.

Boardwalk Hours

During the summer season, rides and stores typically open from 8 AM until midnight, while the beach is accessible only during lifeguard hours, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. For updates on events or changes, refer to Jenkinson’s website.

Amenities

Visitors will find several restroom facilities along the boardwalk, along with outdoor showers. The area is wheelchair accessible, and security personnel maintain a constant presence for added safety.

Final Thoughts

Point Pleasant is often considered the quieter, more family-friendly alternative to Seaside Heights, and many would argue that it is the superior choice. Sitting at a beachside bar, relishing fresh oysters, and sipping a cold beverage while watching dolphins frolic in the distance is an unmatched experience.
A day at the beach
I confidently rank Point Pleasant as the top boardwalk in New Jersey, surpassing even those of Seaside Heights and Wildwood. After enjoying a day at the beach, consider venturing inland to discover some of New Jersey’s remarkable hiking opportunities.
